Dance of Telangana

Seeing the heading don't take me for a TRS sympathizer or culture savvy person who has deep knowledge of different types of dances.I am a hyderabadi who has come to enjoy the theen mar rythm come festival season in Hyderabad.Any festival be it Ganesh pooja or godess pooja, marriages or funeral , the first thing you hear is the drum beat and mad crowd bursting into a frenzied dance. Our family had migrated from Tamil Nadu, initially our whole family would get frightened watching the people go into chaotic movement. On years of exposure to this now we have become a part of the onlooking crowd.Once the drummers start, it is a never ending din, the young and the old immaterial of the status go into frenzied motions. Generally in India the festivities start on  the onset of rainy season, hence in the earlier days, there will be controlled din as the leather parchment of the drums gets wet and needs heating on the fire but nowadays the drums have polyethylene or polypropylene parchment which can be drummed even when wet hence there is continuous drumming immaterial of the weather. The drummers are hired and are given local hooch so that they can drum continuously from the demanding crowd for different types of beats. The beat starts slowly and the rhythm gathers momentum and also the dance. The rhythm and the din dan catches on to the onlookers       subconscious they also start swaying. Similar dances are also prevalent in Kerala &Tamilnadu .But nothing can beat the dance of Telangana of its frenzied motions and the chaotic movements. In Tamilnadu the style is frog leaping while in kerala it is a bit voodoish. Telanganites in Andhrapradesh enjoy every bit of this nonsensical so called dance.Aren't you inquisitive now? Below is a link to a video, courtesy my daughter.Enjoy??!! Jai Telangana
